In an effort to tackle seasonal flooding, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has launched an ambitious plan to clean the heavily silted Sunehri Pul drainage network. The project involves deploying advanced robotic cleaners and high-capacity super sucker machines to extract debris and restore flow in the critical water channel.

However, officials have acknowledged that the timeline for completion may fall short of the approaching monsoon. Despite the use of cutting-edge technology, the complex desilting operation is projected to take a minimum of three months—placing its conclusion well beyond the expected onset of rains.

The clogged Sunehri Pul drain has been a longstanding concern for residents and civic authorities alike, often contributing to waterlogging during heavy downpours. With the monsoon season looming, delays in the cleanup effort have raised worries about urban flooding and disrupted traffic in vulnerable areas.

Officials assure that temporary measures will be put in place to mitigate flood risks in the meantime. Still, the slow progress underscores the broader challenges of urban infrastructure maintenance in rapidly growing cityscapes like Delhi.
